My ‘miracle’ detox plan

I recently completed a 3 day detox and I have been feeling amazing ever since as it’s totally reset my tastebuds.  I have always had a sweet tooth and could quite happily eat my way through a whole bag of Haribo Starmix or eat a ton of Cadburys Marvellous Creations (the ones with jelly beans and popping candy) but since my detox I no longer enjoy eating them so I have kicked them to the kerb!

A few friends have asked me for the detox plan as I have been really raving on about it.  The detox is for 3 days and you have all the things listed below on each of the days:

The first thing you should have upon waking up is a pint of warm water with half a lemon squeezed in with grated ginger (use a small piece)

Breakfast juice

– 3 celery sticks

– 1 small cucumber

– 2 kale leaves or a handful of spinach

– Handful of fresh parsley

– 1 small lemon (peeled)

– 1 apple

It doesn’t matter what order you juice all the items, just make sure the juice is well mixed.  You can also add half a teaspoon of spirulina to the juice if needed for an extra energy boost.

Mid morning snack

– 1 carrot, 1 small cucumber, 1 celery stick.  Cut them into small pieces and snack on throughout the morning

Lunch sushi salad

Dressing

–  Juice of 1 lemon

– 1 tablespoon grated ginger

– 1 tablespoon soya or teriyaki sauce

Put the dressing ingredients into a small jar and shake well just before pouring over the salad

Salad

– 1 ripe advocado

– 1 small cucumber

– 1 grated carrot

– Handful of alfafa sprouts

– Handful of chopped coriander (optional)

– 1 nori sheet (chopped up)

– 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds

Chop everything and drizzle the dressing over it (move over Jamie Oliver, this beats your 15 minute meals!)

Afternoon snack – handful of blanched almonds

Dinner vegetable soup

– 4 cups filtered water

– 4 medium courgettes, chopped

– 3 celery sticks, chopped

– 1 cup of roughly chopped green beans

– 1 bunch of chopped fresh parsley

– 3 medium tomatoes, chopped

– 3 garlic cloves, chopped

– 1 teaspoon unrefined sea salt

– 2 teaspoons of mixed herbs (I also added 1 teaspoon of dried chilli as I like a kick to my food)

Put all ingredients into a large pot and bring to a gentle boil.  Lower the heat, cover and simmer gently for 30 minutes.  The soup is enough for 3 days

Chia Pudding

– 1 ¼ cups of unsweetened almond milk

– 1 tablespoon of raw honey

– 6 tablespoons of chia seeds (whole, not ground)

– 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Put all ingredients into a large jar or container and shake well.  Pour into 3 bowls and refrigerate for at least an hour before eating, they will keep for up to a week.  Since my detox I have continued to have this pudding as it’s so tasty but I make it with 2 scoops of vanilla whey protein and leave out the honey.  Make sure you mix it well so you don’t get protein powder lumps in it.

Before bedtime have a chamomile tea.  Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day whilst on the detox, at least 2 litres.

On the first day of the detox I had a headache for a few hours and the shivers but this is perfectly normal so don’t worry if you don’t feel so great.  On the second day I felt amazing and after the detox had finished I had lost 3lbs, this is water weight and not fat but it’s been great not to feel bloated after eating and my skin looks really healthy.  I will definitely be doing this detox again.
