It’s that time of year when gyms around the world are soon going to see an influx of new members who have made getting fit and losing weight one of their New Year’s resolutions. I know some people aren’t keen on January being the ‘NY resolution crowd’ as it can often mean having to wait for machines, classes are a lot busier and the changing rooms are sometimes like the first day of the January sales. Personally, I like to see new people at the gym.
I respect anyone who makes the decision to want to become fitter and make regular exercise a part of their routine. For some people it can be a pretty big deal, especially if they have been inactive for a large part of their life. If I see anyone at the gym looking lost I’ll go out of my way to ask if they’re okay and be friendly and helpful. Gyms can be intimidating to people who haven’t exercised before or aren’t used to training regularly so I feel that gym regulars should try and help make it as pleasant an experience as possible, along with the gym staff.
So if you’re a newbie who is starting their new training plan good for you! If you aren’t sure how to use a particular machine or need someone to show you how to use free weights then ask away. I hope you stick to your resolution and please don’t give up too soon. It’s often at the point of wanting to give up that you will start seeing some results. Welcome to the first day of the rest of your FIT life. 🙂
